It’s not too late to catch the tail end of the holidays and hie off to the nearest vacation spot. You can pack your leather duffle bag with all your travel essentials for a weekend away from home. There are still plenty of travel deals that you can find online. With a great travel deal, you won’t have to worry about your savings dipping too low as the New Year rolls in.
For a hassle-free last minute holiday travel, remember these important tips:
1. Manage your expectations – you cannot possibly do everything that you want to do on a short notice and within a short vacation period. Do not expect to get a grand vacation without much planning. It’s only a weekend away from home, so it would not be advisable to cram your vacation schedule with too many things to do. Since it’s also the peak season, you also cannot expect to have vacation spots all to yourself.
2. Check your finances – before you book anything, it is always wise to make sure that you have enough funds to cover your travel expenses. Do not stop at considering transportation and accommodation expenses. There are usually other incidental expenses that you have to think about when planning a vacation. Choose packages that include as much amenities and activities that you would like to avail of so you do not have to think about allocating a budget for them separately.
3. Choose activities for everyone in the trip – it is also recommended that you choose activities that everyone travelling with you would enjoy. Unless it is really your intention to have some “me-time,” you want to be able to spend time and share the activities with your family or friends as much as you can.
I would love to have this, but it would be too much of a rush. But great advice for a spontaneous person!
There is something so exciting about being able to just decide to go on vacation!!! Another tip though is to make sure you have emergency funds to do this. If you get ill, or weather keeps you from getting back and forth like you need to….you will need to have funds available
I would love to go somewhere for a weekend on the spur of the moment! I used to do that before I had kids, not so much anymore though! My problem was always trying to cram in too many activities in too little time!
Weekend vacations sometimes are the best. Simply to get away can be very beneficial for relaxation; however, for all to emjoy their time away, activities should be geared towards the enjoyment of all participants.
It has been a long time since we just took a trip without putting
alot of planning into it, and I miss that. Doing things on the spur
of the moment is fun and traveling somewhere would be a fun change of pace.
These are excellent tips when traveling. I just wish that I didn’t try to do everything while I am on vacation and need a vacation from my vacation. I try to see and do everything! When I go to an island, I never get an beach time.
great tips
Those are great points. With all the preparing I do, being a couponer, I didn’t even think to do these things.
We lack two things required for a holiday vacation: funds, and free time. Heh. Other than that, this is a great time to go!
Tips that is a must read for many. Great round up of advice. Thanks!
Thanks for the tips! It is so hectic trying to plan a last minute trip, and expect everything to fall into place perfectly! This advice will definitely help me keep my sanity while preparing the that short notice vacation!
Points noted. As for me, planned or impromptu travel are always the best regardless if the place you went to did not meet your expectations but as long as you are with someone you love to be with, consider everything an opportunity to make another moment of your life worth looking back or sharing to your kids or grandchildren in the future.
I find that no matter how much I plan for a quick getaway, I always find myself short or surprised at the extra incidentals I hadn’t thought of. One way I can be stress-free is to allocate an extra 10% to my budget for “surprises” that I hadn’t thought of. Another thing I do, if I hadn’t been to a place in awhile I always go to their website and see if there are any extra costs, like new amenities that they didn’t have when I was there last, such as added on excursions.
Unfortunately, no matter how much thought and effort I put into planning the perfect trip,I always end up getting hit with unexpected expenses. I now add at least an extra 10% toany budget I come up with. Saves me a lot of grief.
aww.. i miss to travel :< I hope more vacations spots will be discovered this year.
I would love to be able to travel and save money
These are excellent tips when traveling. I just wish that I didn’t try to do everything while I am on vacation and need a vacation from my vacation.
