Not only is sweat produced when we exercise, but also when we experience intense emotions such as excitement, nervousness, and stress. Going on a date can spark a combination of all three of these emotions at the same time, so sweating is often inevitable. Having to worry about the amount you are sweating, only makes matters worse and sometimes we start sweating about sweating. So to help you out, here are some tips for reducing sweat during dates.

Try to remain calm

Although staying calm can be near impossible before or during a date, if you want to reduce sweating you must also reduce stress. Before going out on a date try a relaxation technique such as meditation, yoga or breathing exercises to lower the heart rate. By lowering the heart rate and reducing circulation, your body will cool down and produce less sweat.

Let your hands, arms and legs breathe

Quite often, when we are self conscious about our sweat we tend to clench our fists, put our hands in our pockets or cross our arms and legs tightly. These actions only increase our body heat and encourage more sweat. Instead, give these areas room to breathe. This allows sweat to evaporate a lot more effectively.

Wear clothes with breathable fabric

If you are sweating, it means your body is already hot. Pilling on layers or wearing non-breathable fabrics will only elevate your body’s temperature further and cause more sweating. It is better to wear cotton or polyester blends as these fabrics allow heat to escape from the body, rather than trapping it inside.

Drink lots of water

When we get flustered and hot, the body attempts to cool itself by sweating. The more your body temperature rises the more you sweat. By drinking lots of cool water you can cool your body’s temperature and in turn reduce sweating.

Avoid certain foods and drinks

If you are fighting back the sweats, it is best to avoid food and drink that induce sweating. Some common sweat-inducing culprits are foods that contain chilli or other spices and caffeinated beverages such as coffee and energy drinks.

While these tips may reduce the amount you sweat, the easiest and most effective way to control sweat on a date is by using an antiperspirant. Antiperspirants not only provide a pleasant deodorant, but work to stop sweat at the source. Although we sweat all over our bodies, our underarms tend to trap a lot of heat and are often leave sweat marks on our clothes. If you want to prevent unsightly sweat patches on a date, you should try Rexona’s Clinical Protection antiperspirant for men or women. Clinical Protection is clinically proven to reduce wetness and odour caused by sweat. By simply switching to a Rexona antiperspirant you can enjoy your date…no sweat!
