Design Nation Takes Designers to Different Countries to Bring New Inspiration Home:

Not only does Kohl’s have great savings, frequent sales, online promo codes, and “Kohl’s Cash”, Kohl’s is also known as the home of Vera Wang’s lower-end line, Simply Vera Vera Wang, and Lauren Conrad’s LC Lauren Conrad. Now, however, they’re stepping up their game. Catching “Bulls-eye fever”, Kohl’s will be kicking off a new designer series similar to previous Target collaborations called Design Nation this November. Unlike other department store designer collaborations that result in mass produced, low quality imitations of the designer’s line, Design Nation is a “new” concept aimed to produce something new from designers.

According to Women’s Wear Daily: “…the concept adds a new twist to fashion’s high-low game: Rather than simply bring designers to a retailer with special, limited-edition lower-priced lines, the program teams them up with a city of their choice, then takes them on a journey to that location to find inspiration for the month-long capsule collection.”

This collaboration is actually based on a premise- not just a designer’s name. Kohl’s hopes that by allowing designers to choose and travel to a city of their choice, the results will be something new- something different that we wouldn’t have predicted from the designer. Kohl’s hopes pieces are created that “not only reflect the designer’s DNA, but also the city’s.” Sounds like a novel, refreshing idea!

The first designer to produce a collection for Kohl’s will be Narcisco Rodriguez. (It has been rumored that Derek Lam may be on board for spring!) Rodriguez’s collection will consist of outerwear, dresses, pants, tops and skirts- all inspired by a trip the designer took to Istanbul, Turkey. Pieces in the collection will range in price from $30 to $150, but knowing Kohl’s, prices will drop quickly so you’ll have to scramble to shop the sales! If you’re not familiar with the designer, Narcisco Rodriquez is a master of couture and a favorite of celebrities like Claire Danes and Sarah Jessica Parker. Keeping that in mind, we can probably expect something great from this collaboration.
