It has been a long, cold winter, but finally spring has sprung! Temperatures are finally on the rise, and most of us can’t wait to ditch our black opaques and slip on some sandals. If you’re thinking of splashing out on a new wardrobe to suit the warmer weather, then our handy guide on the 5 hottest spring/summer looks will give you all the inspiration you need.

1. Graphic Monochrome Prints

Monochrome is set to take over as the pattern for the summer. Checkerboard prints were seen on the catwalk and Louis Vuitton, and every starlet worth her salt has since been seen wearing the print on the red carpet. In-keeping with the 60s feel, expect to see it on a-line shift dresses and patent handbags. If wearing it all over feels a little too much, limit it to accessories and pair with clean black and white separates. A Breton striped top is also a wearable way to style monochrome, and is perfect for relaxing in the park with a jug of Pimms.

2. Structure

Structured skirts will be appearing everywhere in the next few months. The perfect shape will be slightly flouncy, and short; but the thicker, more rigid fabrics will stop them from looking too girlie. Pair yours with a similarly structured T-shirt, which will be in slightly softer fabrics, so that you don’t get too hot in the office when the sun is shining outside. Tailored leather dresses and trousers won’t be going away either, but will be updated to be thinner (and therefore much easier to wear) for the summer months.

3. Sheer detailing and paneling

Topshop unique showed romantic dresses layered over soft sheer organza type fabrics in their spring/summer show, and this kind of detailing is set to be a massive trend. Last year saw an explosion of black cocktail dresses with tight black panels on the chest and stomach, but this years paneling will be much softer. Look for skirts with a small band of sheer white material around the bottom, and plain structured T-shirts with a soft panel around the hem. The look is a move away from the detailed lace looks of last year, to something altogether more minimalist.

4. Bold florals

Bold floral patterns were big over the winter, and will continue to be popular into this season. Ditch the ditsy pastels and look for summer maxi dresses covered with big roses on a black background. This pattern also works well on corduroy skirts and denim shorts.

5. The 90’s

Championed by celebrities like Cara Delevingne, the 90’s revival is here to stay. Look for long skirts and clunky mid-heeled sandals. Crop tops are perfect with high waisted denim shorts (if you’re brave enough!) and cut off denim waistcoats are a perfect summer cover-up.

So now you know what to wear in the coming months, it may be time to treat yourself to a spring/summer 13 shopping spree!
